VAA/COVID 19 Update - 3/27/2020

VAA Families and Volunteers:

I write to provide an update with regard to Valley Athletic Association’s response to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic and recent orders and guidelines from the State of Minnesota.  The VAA Board and our commissioners have been meeting on a weekly basis to monitor the governmental response to the pandemic, and we have been in constant communication with ISD 196, the City of Apple Valley, and the City of Burnsville with regard to access to fields and gyms.  Our hope remains to have meaningful spring and summer sports seasons and to get our kids back onto the field of play.  However, as always, our primary responsibility will be the well-being of our kids and volunteers.  In light of the “stay-at-home” order that went into effect on March 27th and the continued closure of schools and school facilities, VAA will suspend all activities through Monday, May 4, 2020.  Please note that this includes all meetings, practices, games, tournaments, and any other in-person interaction.

Although we are suspending activities, I want to emphasize that we have not made a decision at this point to cancel any spring or summer programs, other than our track program which would have been unable to have a meaningful season even if activities are resumed on May 4th.  A separate email will be forthcoming to track participants.  Because we have not cancelled other seasons, I continue to encourage folks to register for spring and summer sports.  In the event we are able to proceed on May 4th, there will be a great deal of work that has to be done by our commissioners, board members, coordinators and coaches in a short period of time, and if at all possible, it would be best for their preparation to have a good idea with regard to the number of participants there will be in each sport.  I understand the feelings and hesitation parents may have at this time with regard to registering for sports, but please know that in the event a season is cancelled, full refunds of registration fees will be provided.

Once again, a copy of this statement will be posted on VAA’s website, as well as our Facebook page, and you will receive additional updates as the situation evolves.  In the interim, if you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to contact me at

Be well,
Jason Hill, VAA President
